Position: Library Director
The Genesee Area Library is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Library Director. This is a part-time position with a minimum of 20-30 hours per week. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about fostering a love for reading and lifelong learning within our community.
Responsibilities:
Library Services:
Develop and implement a variety of library programs for patrons of all ages.
Provide reference and information services to the community.
Manage the library’s social media accounts to promote services, events, and resources.
Foster engagement and outreach to increase community involvement in library activities.
Collection Development:
Maintain and develop the library’s collection of books, media, and resources.
Evaluate and select new materials based on community needs and interests.
Organize and manage the library’s digital and physical collections.
Administration:
Oversee daily library operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.
Develop and implement library policies in collaboration with the library board.
Prepare reports and attend all monthly board meetings
Keep records of monthly and yearly circulation statistics
Ensure compliance with local, state, and national library standards and regulations.
Personnel Management:
Supervise library staff and volunteers, including recruitment, training, and scheduling.
Manage staff and volunteer performance and maintain a positive work environment.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff members.
Financial Management:
Assist in the creation and management of the library’s budget.
Seek and apply for grants and other funding opportunities.
Organize fundraising activities and maintain relationships with donors.
Prepare invoices and donations for treasurer
Facility Maintenance:
Ensure the library facility is well-maintained, safe, and accessible to the public.
Oversee the use and maintenance of library equipment and technology.
Coordinate repairs and improvements as needed.
Continuing Education:
Stay current with trends and developments in library services and technology.
Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Encourage staff to engage in continuing education and professional growth.
Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree required (If already obtained, the candidate must have at least 9 credits in Library Science or be willing to obtain them once hired).
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience working in a library or related field is preferred.
Knowledge of library systems, technology, and social media management is a plus.
Once an applicant is hired, they will need to obtain the following clearances before their starting date:
Criminal History from the Pa State Police
Child Abuse History Clearance from the Pa Dept of Human Services
Fingerprint based federal criminal history submitted through the FBI
Mandated Reporter training must be completed within one year of hire date
Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage.
