Computer/Internet Usage Policy
With advances in technology and the informational needs of our community, the Genesee Area Library strives to develop collections, resources, and services that meet the needs of our patrons and the community. It is within this context that the library offers free access to computers and the internet.
Violations of the policies and regulations could result in the suspension or loss of privilege to use these resources. Any illegal activity in the Genesee Area Library’s Internet resources or equipment will be subject to prosecution by the appropriate authorities. The library reserves the right to take appropriate actions to ensure compliance with this policy. This policy may also be revised from time to time and is always available to the public.
Usage Guidelines
Computer use is free to the public, regardless of if they are a patron
Users must be at least 13 years of age unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Computers are available on a first-come, first serve basis but may be reserved ahead of time by making an appointment with staff.
Sessions on public computers are limited to 60 minutes with a maximum of 2 hours per day.
Patrons requiring longer than 1 hour to complete their work may ask for an extension of time, granted solely on the discretion of library staff.
Patrons who wish to hear audio content on Library computers must use headphones. Please see the circulation desk to borrow a pair.
Patrons may not load programs onto the Library computer hard drives or run unapproved programs from any device.
The Library is not responsible for damage, loss of data, or liability that may occur from the patron’s use of the library’s computer.
For liability reasons, the staff cannot answer questions of a financial, legal, or medical nature. Staff cannot fill out online forms for patrons.
Computer is monitored by Library staff and patrons must check in with the staff on duty prior to using the computer.
Internet Resource Policy
Users should be aware that the internet is not a secure medium and third parties may be able to obtain information regarding activity. The Genesee Area Library will not release any information on the use of specific internet resources by patrons except as required by law or for the necessary operation of the library.
The Genesee Area Library holds no responsibility for any direct or indirect damages arising from the use of its computer resources.
Computers cannot be used for any fraudulent purpose, including activities prohibited under applicable Federal, Pennsylvania, or local laws. Users may not display nor print materials that may be unlawful.
Materials found on the internet are copyrighted and it is the user’s responsibility to be aware of copyright laws of the United States.
A minor’s access and usage of the internet is the sole responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. The Genesee Area Library strongly encourages parents or legal guardians to supervise their child’s internet use. The Library does not have the right or responsibility to determine the appropriateness of resources for any minor.
Display of sexually explicit graphics on any viewing screen is a violation of the Pennsylvania criminal code, 18 PA C.S.5903, and is strictly prohibited.

Photocopies and Computer Prints:
- Black and white copies: $0.25 per side, per page.
- Color copies: $1.00 per side, per page
Fax:
- Outgoing: $1.00 (one dollar) for up to 10 pages. Each additional page is $0.10 (ten cents) per page.
- Incoming: $0.25 (twenty-five cents) per page
